During our 21st Century Designer’s class on Tuesday, our lecturer had invited designer and former DJCAD student Nikki McWilliams to give a talk.
I found her talk really interesting and it was refreshing to get an insight into what it’s like to be a designer in the real world away from the security of University. It was also good learning just how successful using social media can be with having your own business. Before arriving at University I wasn’t aware how handy the internet can be if utilized properly. And it was good to hear the achievements and opportunities that Nikki had come by through her good use of her Twitter and Facebook.
One example she gave us was Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday, which gives small businesses the opportunity to be advertised on his website and their names to be heard. After a few attempts at tweeting with the tag #sbs, McWilliams’ was finally successful and advertised on his blog. It was great to hear that small things like this can make such a difference with your business.
